Day One
Global Academics travelers arrive at the Philip Goldson International Airport (TZA) and transfer at their own cost to The Radisson at Fort George Hotel or similar
Hosted Welcome Dinner with evening lecture on “The Politics of Belize City”
Day Two
Breakfast at the hotel included each day
Walking Tour: Belize City
Workshop: The History of the UBAD and Black Power in Belize conducted by members of this historic movement and those who created Amandela Newspaper – the critical media source for the people’s movement
Evening Performance: Attend the Bliss Center for Performing Arts Center for an emersion into Belizean culture
Day Three
Adventure: Visit to the Orange Walk District for a guided river boat ride to a historic Mayan city. Along the way we will see birds and other wildlife, learn about the Mayan presence in the region from a knowledgeable guide, and see one of the many African faces on a temple at the site

Day Four
Drive to the Garifuna village of Hopkins. During our time in Hopkins and nearby Dangriga, we will learn about the history, politics, and culture of the Garifuna people by immersing ourselves in song, dance, drum, and conversation.
Free day for sun and fun (optional activities provided including snorkeling and scuba diving)
Workshop: Evening Garifuna Drumming Lesson and introductory talk about Garifuna culture
Day Five
Visit to the town of Dangriga, the heart of Belize’s Garifuna community.
Activity: Visit to the Garifuna Museum for a tour about the history of the people
Workshop: Visit to the famed Garifuna art studio of Pen to see and learn about his artistic expression
Workshop: Interactive Garifuna drum and dance activity with Pen and friends
Traditional Garifuna lunch included
Workshop: Visit a Casava Family Farm to learn about the importance and role of this staple African crop to the Garifuna people
Day Six
Adventure: From Hopkins we will take a day hike in the rain forest to see amazing waterfalls and natural swimming pools
Day Seven
Workshop: Visit to the Belize Women’s Collective in Hopkins to learn about the work of the collective in empowering women and partake in traditional Garifuna foods
Workshop: Lecture on “Mayan Political Movements: Legal Claims to Land Rights” to learn about the efforts of maintaining rights to land for the preservation of life and culture
Day Eight
Drive back to Belize city for a free day to explore. Options provided
Closing hosted dinner
Day Nine
Depart back to the U.S. or extend your stay
